Karadja, like Heriz, is a township in northern Persia and an important centre for village production of the region to the northeast of Tabriz. Whilst from the front Karadja carpets are somewhat indistinguishable from Heriz carpets, the weave is different, as evidenced by looking at the configuration of warp and weft at the back of the carpet.
Older pieces such as this are usually quite archaic in their drawing with bold angular forms and better space and proportion than their modern counterparts.
