Baluchi rugs have traditionally been recognised by a distinctive dark palette and by the use of materials such as goat and camel hair.
Rug nomenclature changes and whilst the term Baluchi is still generally used, many such rugs are now attributed to other groups in the area. This type with a somewhat lighter palette and using the symmetrical knot are generally referred to as Aimaq and seem to have an affinity with kurdish weavings from the Kuchan area. It features a white-petalled pattern known as ‘mina khane’ in the field.
