Caucasian rugs are generally characterised by strongly geometric patterns and clear colour. They have long been collected because of their great artistic qualities. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London acquired the greater part of their entire Caucasian collection in the 1880’s and Caucasian rugs gave inspiration to much 20th century abstract art.
Over time this particular field pattern has become known as Afshan. This beautiful and very collectible rug requires some fairly minor restoration or at least convservation.
