There have been many craft revival projects, most prominently in Turkey over the last several decades. The aim has been to reproduce classical rug designs in the finest materials. The problem has always been to reproduce the colours and wool quality of old rugs. This project out of Sultanhani in central Turkey uses very fine quality materials to faithfully recreate classical old south Caucasian rug designs. The output is very small and the results spectacularly successful.

Like the ‘star’ Kazak design, the ‘pinwheel’ is one of the most visually spectacular of all south Caucasian rugs designs. Original examples deservedly command extremely high prices.
