Kashan has been central to the history and development of the Persian carpet since at least the 16th century.
A revival of weaving in the township occurred in the middle of the 19th century when workshops were established to cater for European and American demand for floor coverings. mostly in a cocuneal red featuring central medallions
This piece, made around the middle of last century, is a response to a growing preference for allover designs over central medallions and a predilection for a soft pastel palette.
