This silk rug from central Iran is typical of the production to come out of the workshops of the city of Ghom since the 1930s. It features a design of concentric diamond medallions with the so-called ‘cane’ design in the corner spandrels.
Such pieces were produced using silk warp, weft and pile unlike later inferior quality copies produced in other parts of the east and subcontinent.
