The holy city of Qum has given its name to rugs made or marketed in the area since 1945 and the weaving characteristics, design and materials vary. The most common type available is asymmetrically knotted with woollen pile on cotton warp and weft. Some are of all silk pile and foundation and others, like this, have a woollen pile with silk highlights.
