Heriz carpet
northern Persia
circa 1900
Size: 351 x 277 cm
Heriz is a township in northern Persia to the northeast of Tabriz and an important centre for village production, particularly of room size carpets.
Older pieces, such as this one, usually contain bold angular forms and a better space and proportion than their modern counterparts.
The palette tends to be lighter and there is a preference for soft harmonic tones rather than primary colour.
