A very large proportion of west Persian rugs are made by Kurdish people the great majority of whom are nowadays settled. Kurdish towns such as Bidjar and Senneh are famous for their production of fine carpets in the 19th century, whilst Hamadan was very much a market town for the products of the surrounding villages.
Kurdish village pieces such as this, rustic in character, were woven in considerable numbers during the latter half of 19th century and the early part of last century.
