Fachralo Kazak, The Caucasus, late 19thc 138 x 107 cm
Fachralo Kazak rug
the southern Caucasus
circa 1880
Size: 138 x 107 cm
The best of Kazak rugs are characterised by their immediacy – bold motifs and vibrant colour lending an almost barbaric quality to their presence.
This rug of charmingly small proportions contains several fields superimposed within the main border. The ultimate effect is that of looking through a series of ‘windows’, from the outer main border into a red field and through a ‘keyhole’ into the blue field beyond.
This effect is enhanced by the juxtaposition of colour, an advancing warm red against a receding pale blue in the centre.
