When Allah created the world, they say, he forgot about Baluchistan and so he had to use the leftovers. The harshness and rocky infertility of the ancient homeland of the Baluchi tribes people is aptly conveyed in this saying.
The mainstream of Baluchi weavings are readily identifiable through their dark palette of indigo blue, madder reds and browns and their use of such materials as goat hair for the selvedges.
Rug nomenclature changes and whilst the term Baluchi is still generally used many such rugs are now attributed to other groups in the area.
This is a very beautiful and nowadays rather rare old Baluchi main carpet attributed as Timuri.
