Kurdish long rug
Kurdish long rug
from western Persia / eastern Turkey
circa 1870
Size: 293 x 113 cm
A most unusual old kurdish long rug from Persian Kurdistan or eastern Anatolia showing on the ivory ground a monumental version of what is often referred to as the ‘feather leaf’ design.
It is an old tribal weaving with heavily braided ends and an ‘out-shapeness’ resulting from uneven loom tensions. This often occurs in kurdish rugs where horizontal looms were used. This simply adds to the funky character of this charming old piece.
The natural dyes used have produced clear crisp tones of green, yellow and red/brown. A rare old item of kurdish weaving.
