The townships of Mahal and Sultanabad were centres of large commercial production in the latter half of the 19th century and well into the 20th century.
Mahal carpets are characterised by a lightness of palette and designs reflecting the ‘decorative arts’ rather than ‘tribal’ aesthetic.
