Felting is a process in which wool is compacted into a dense mass with the application of water, pressure, friction, and heat.
The woven fabric on top of the ‘under’ felt of this decorative horse cover is composed of linear designs in warp-faced weave.
The Turkmen, and especially the Yomut, showed great skill in making these covers for their horses which were revered and decorated accordingly. This is a particularly fine example.
