Heriz is a township in northern Persia and an important centre for village production of the region to the northeast of Tabriz.
Older pieces such as this are usually quite archaic in their drawing with bold angular forms and better space and proportion than their modern counterparts. The bolder palette is somewhat unusual in Heriz carpets.
