Chinese Peking rug

Chinese Peking rug
circa 1920
Size: 175 x 125 cm

Chinese rugs and carpets became popular as decorative floor coverings towards the end of the 19th
century and manufactories were set up in major centres at that time Peking, Tiensin and Kansu.
Whilst later workshop pieces from the mid 20th century were of stout weave and robust, they lacked the aesthetic appeal and fine quality materials of earlier pieces such as this small rug.
